Christwood once again is extremely grateful that we were spared any serious consequences from Hurricane Francine. Residents through the years have described us as a safe island having been spared serious damage or injury from repeated storms through the years. An early morning survey of the property shows that some ditches are still running water but there is ample capacity in the detention ponds. One small tree was downed and a sign was blown over. One staff member drove her car into a ditch, but it was pulled out and she was able to drive off.
This afternoon we have a resident meeting that we’ll use to “debrief” our preparations and garner suggestions from residents who have many years of experience dealing with tropical storms and hurricanes. We’ll also want to know if residents’ families have any extraordinary needs we might help with. We continue to check on staff needs as well. We’ll also begin the process of retuning the outdoor furniture and potted plants to their unfettered places. Since we did not lose power we don’t even have to reset the clocks on the micrAll in all, our area was spared the worst of this very unusual and erratic storm, and we’ll use the experience to inform our preparations for the next one that will surely come at some point. Our thoughts and prayers are offered to those whose lives were disrupted.
