Influenced by her father, Mary Ann Haase developed a love of photography early in life. Although she loved traditional photography, she also craved the concept of the “unbound” image from the confines of a viewfinder. This desire evolved to the use of multi-image collage and mixed-image collage on clay vessels and remains a dominant force in her current work.
A Louisiana-based mixed media artist and photographer, Mary Ann earned a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and a Master of Liberal Studies from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. She also studied at the Studio Arts College International in Florence, Italy.
Earlier in her career she exhibited mostly in the Northeast, Ohio and in Italy. Professionally she has taught at the Taft School in Watertown, CT, Cleveland State University, and The Studio Arts College International in Florence. She also worked in the Photography Department of the Cleveland Museum of Art and as a freelance photographer.
After many years of focusing her creativity in other areas of her life and “doing bodies of work in her head”, she gratefully has returned to making art.
